Motorcycle sales rose 7.4% in the first quarter of 2026, driven by strong off-road and scooter segment performance, according to data released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).

From January to March 2026, 20,624 motorcycles, off-highway vehicles and scooters were sold, compared to the same period in 2025.

The off-road segment recorded the highest growth, rising 26.7% year-on-year to 8737 units. Scooter sales also performed well, increasing 7.8% to 1431 units.

However, the results showed mixed performance across categories. Road motorcycle sales fell 3.2% while off-highway vehicles declined 9.2% compared to 2025.

FCAI chief executive Tony Weber said the results indicate a mixed but encouraging start to the year.

“The first quarter results show solid growth, primarily due to strong performance in the off-road segment, driven by recreational demand,” Weber said.

Weber noted the timing of the data means external factors have yet to influence the market. “These figures are for a period too early to see any impact from conflict in the Middle East and global fuel uncertainty, but an increase in interest in road motorcycles and scooters as an alternative form of urban transport can be expected,” he said.

The strong off-road performance suggests continued consumer interest in recreational riding, while the scooter segment’s growth may reflect urban mobility trends.
