Australia’s motorcycle market has posted a solid first-half result, with total sales rising 8.2% year-on-year to 46,023 units in the January – June 2026 period, according to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).
The result compares with 42,549 motorcycles sold in the first six months of 2025.
Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries chief executive Tony Weber said the result reflected renewed strength in key parts of the market. “The strongest growth has come from the off-road segment, which has continued to improve over recent months and is now driving the overall market result,” Weber said.
Off-road leads the way
The off-road category was the clear standout, with the kids and trail segments recording particularly strong performances — up 32% and 131% respectively compared with the same period in 2025.
Off-highway vehicle (OHV) sales were broadly flat over the same period, with 6,764 units sold in the first half of 2026 against 6,760 in H1 2025.
The scooter segment was the one area of softness, recording a 2.7% decline compared with the first half of last year.
Weber said the broader picture remained stable despite the variation across segments. “While off-road motorcycles were the standout performer, the broader market remains stable, with road motorcycles and OHVs tracking close to last year’s levels,” he said.
