Damon Rielly has left CarExpert after four and a half years as chief executive, with founders Paul Maric and Alborz Fallah stepping into interim co-chief executive roles.
The company’s announcement says Rielly “has now exited the business”. It does not name a successor, set out a search process, or carry a quote from him.
CarExpert’s covering note to media describes the founders as continuing to lead the business as co-chief executives. The release itself describes the roles as interim.
“Damon has made a significant contribution to CarExpert over the past four and a half years, helping us grow the business, build out our media and marketplace capability and strengthen the team around us,” co-founder Paul Maric says.
Rielly’s tenure covered the company’s move from media into transactions and into a second market. CarExpert launched a large-scale car buying service in October 2025, opened a New Zealand operation in February with five foundation partners, and released its Sales Atlas new vehicle market data tool in June.
“CarExpert is in a strong position. We have a growing audience, a marketplace generating thousands of enquiries and hundreds of sales, and a clear opportunity as the Australian new-car market becomes more complex,” Maric says.
“Alborz and I are looking forward to getting even closer to the business again and continuing to build from here.”
The company puts its reach at more than two million Australian views across its website and video channels, and says the marketplace is delivering thousands of new vehicle enquiries and hundreds of vehicle sales. The release does not state the period those figures cover.
CarExpert works with more than 1,200 dealers nationally. It was founded in 2020 and describes itself as Australia’s largest new-car destination.
The company says it has been adopting artificial intelligence across content workflows, customer service, sales, marketing, product development and internal operations, with the aim of removing repetitive work while keeping editorial and human judgement in the customer experience.
The change lands in an active month for Australian automotive marketplaces. carsales launched its Nexgate dealer platform on 1 September and began referring buyers to subscription provider carbar on 7 September, while Drive claimed second place by dealer listings on 8 September.
