BMW Australia has partnered with Uber to offer complimentary and discounted electric-vehicle rides for fans travelling to major golf tournaments, in what the carmaker describes as a global first initiative aimed at encouraging sustainable transport.
From December 1 to 7, people travelling to and from the Men’s Australian Open in Melbourne can book a free ride in a fully electric BMW iX1 through the Uber app, subject to vehicle availability. Trips must start or end within an 8-kilometre radius of the Royal Melbourne Golf Club and be no longer than 8 kilometres.
The iX1 will appear as a dedicated “BMW Electric” option in the app when an eligible vehicle is nearby.
BMW says the initiative gives golf fans an opportunity to experience “sustainable luxury transport” during the tournament’s opening week.
The partnership extends into central Melbourne from December 8, 2025, to January 11, 2026, with riders able to receive 60% off BMW Electric trips within a 5-kilometre radius of the CBD.
BMW Australia has been the official automotive partner of Australian Golf since 2022 and became title sponsor of the BMW Australian PGA Championship in 2024. The company says its collaboration with Uber supports its community and sustainability goals while promoting the brand’s growing range of electric vehicles.
BMW also hosts the annual BMW Golf Cup, the world’s largest amateur golf tournament series, involving more than 100,000 participants across 50 countries.
With electric vehicles now accounting for about 20 per cent of BMW Australia’s sales, the company says it is committed to offering a broad mix of combustion, plug-in hybrid and fully electric models while supporting national emissions-reduction targets.
Uber’s BMW Electric promotion is subject to driver and vehicle availability.
