carsales has become the first Australian vehicle marketplace to launch a dedicated app inside ChatGPT, bringing the country’s largest auto marketplace directly into one of the world’s most widely used artificial intelligence tools.
The integration allows consumers to explore vehicles using natural, conversational language while expanding visibility for sellers across an evolving discovery channel. Users can describe what they’re looking for in their own words, receive relevant matches from carsales, view prices and key highlights within ChatGPT, then click through to full listings or contact sellers on the carsales platform.
According to carsales’ Australia’s Car Buyer Report 2026, artificial intelligence has entered the research mix and now ranks sixth overall in research influences. The technology acts as an additional layer of support rather than a substitute for trusted environments, with traditional sources including car review platforms like carsales and original equipment manufacturer sites remaining in the top three research influences.
AI adoption in car buying research
Additional carsales data shows more than one in three buyers now use AI in their car search, with adoption highest among Gen Z at 45% and Millennials at 53%. Among AI-assisted shoppers, ChatGPT is the most used tool, cited by 72% of users.

“Our research shows that discovery happens in various places and AI is adding another layer of support alongside trusted sources,” carsales managing director Craig Fraser says.
“Bringing carsales into ChatGPT makes it even easier for people to explore options early in their decision-making process and move seamlessly into our marketplace when they’re ready to take the next step. It’s another way we’re helping people feel more certain in a complex decision.”
Fraser says the integration also expands visibility for dealers and private sellers, with live listings now able to surface directly inside ChatGPT. This opens another high-quality channel to reach in-market shoppers and helps strengthen the exposure and outcomes partners rely on.
The ChatGPT integration builds on carsales’ momentum after being recognised in Similarweb’s Digital 100 as one of Australia’s fastest growing online brands for 2025, ranking ninth in the app category. The company attracts the country’s largest exclusive automotive audience.
Building on AI initiatives
The launch follows carsales’ rollout of AI Voice Search on the carsales app, described as a key step in bringing more natural, conversational discovery into the buying journey. Together, these AI advancements create clearer, more intuitive entry points and reinforce carsales’ commitment to meeting consumers wherever they start their journey.
Once the carsales app is enabled via the ChatGPT app store, users can describe vehicle requirements in natural language, receive relevant matches from the carsales database, view pricing and key highlights within the ChatGPT interface, and access full listings or seller contact details on the carsales platform.
