Toyota Australia will stop taking customer orders for the current-generation GR Supra this month, drawing a close to six years of local sales for the performance coupe.
First launched in September 2019, the fifth-generation Supra reintroduced the iconic nameplate to Australia after a 17-year absence. Over that time, it has attracted more than 1400 buyers and played a key role in boosting Toyota Gazoo Racing’s profile in the market.
Toyota Australia vice president of sales, marketing and franchise operations Sean Hanley said the GR Supra has cemented its place in Toyota’s performance line-up.
“The GR Supra already had a sterling legacy when the current generation launched in 2019, and we’re pleased to say it has exceeded the expectations set by its predecessors,” Hanley says.
“Its pulse-raising performance, sleek coupe design and thrilling dynamics helped raise the profile of our GR portfolio, helping to pave the way for other exciting models like the GR Yaris and GR Corolla.”
While local buyers will no longer be able to secure a new example once dealer stock runs out, Toyota says the GR Supra name will live on beyond 2026. The current model will also continue on track as the basis of the carmaker’s Supercars Championship entry from 2026.
Final line-up
The Australian range comprises the GT, GTS and the recently introduced Track Edition, with the choice of a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. All are powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine producing 285kW and 500Nm, driving the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential.
The Track Edition sits at the top of the range with motorsport-inspired upgrades, including additional suspension bracing, aero enhancements, a carbon fibre ducktail spoiler, and 19-inch matte black alloy wheels with red-painted calipers.
Toyota is encouraging prospective customers to contact dealers quickly, as remaining stock is limited.
