Sydney’s biggest car show brings classics to auction

Administrator · 0 comments

Two famous Australian Group C Touring Cars are primed to take pole position at Shannons Sydney Custom & Collectable Auction at Meguiar’s MotorEx on Sunday, July 21.

A 1975 Ford XB GT Falcon Coupe raced by John Goss, Kevin Bartlett, Allan Moffat and Sir Jack Brabham in its era, and the Mazda RX-3 coupe that won its class and finished an outstanding fifth outright in the 1975 Bathurst 1000.

A brace of sought-after Chrysler VH Charger R/T coupes fit the collectable Auction theme including a 1971 E38 R/T ‘Bathurst’ coupe powered by the powerful 280HP with triple Weber carburettor, and a 1971 R/T 2 Barrel 265-cid coupe painted in one of the model’s trademark colour of Vitamin C.

Important vintage cars also have a presence like the iconic circa 1920 Vauxhall 30/98 E-Type Velox Tourer. Introduced in 1913 and based on the Vauxhall Prince Henry chassis, the 30/98 was the first British sports car to reach 100 miles per hour (160km/h). Plenty of interest for this one from Australian and overseas buyers. Also very appealing is the 1928 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Tourer that is being offered in ‘project’ condition, a real opportunity for Rolls-Royce enthusiasts!

Other British classics include a superb New Zealand-fabricated 1953 Jaguar C-Type Replica, former concours winning 1958 Jaguar XK150 Drop Head Coupe and a now rare 1959 MGA twin cam roadster – one of just 127 right hand drive export models built – plus another five cars from the UK contribute to a strong line up.

In all 32 motor vehicles plus 11 classic motorcycles to go under the hammer. Memorabilia lots include six NSW numerical number plates, enamel & acrylic signs, petrol pumps and much more.

All lots are available for viewing now online and at Shannons St Leonards showroom now until July 18, and then at MotorEx Friday July 19, 5pm-9pm, Saturday July 20, 10am – 7pm and Sunday July 21,10am – 3pm prior to the auction.
