BYD has announced the appointment of Stephen Collins as its new chief operating officer for Australia, effective immediately.
Collins brings two decades of senior leadership experience to the role, having previously held executive positions at Honda and Nissan. Most recently, he served as Chief Operating Officer and Director of Honda Australia for more than ten years. He has also acted as a board member and treasurer of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).
His appointment comes as BYD enters a new growth phase in the Australian market, transitioning to a fully factory-backed distribution model.
“I’m excited to join BYD at such a pivotal time in its journey,” Collins said. “The transition to fully factory backed distribution offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of automotive innovation in Australia. With BYD’s global foundation, I’m looking forward to driving long-term growth that results in more Australians experiencing BYD’s cutting-edge technology and commitment to redefining value.”
Collins will oversee operational strategy and stakeholder engagement as BYD expands its footprint in Australia’s highly competitive new energy vehicle (NEV) market.
His appointment follows the recent hiring of Kate Hornstein as BYD Australia’s first Chief Marketing Officer, signalling a significant investment in strengthening the brand’s local leadership team.
“Stephen brings a wealth of experience that will be crucial in shaping the next steps of BYD Australia’s future,” said Wing You, General Manager of BYD Australia. “Our team is growing and we think that’s only going to enhance the customer experience for anyone considering a BYD vehicle.”
