RedBook launches VIN-level factory options identification tool

Robert Barry · 0 comments

RedBook Australia has launched a new VIN-specific vehicle lookup tool that enables users to identify factory-fitted options for individual vehicles using authorised manufacturer data.

Developed in partnership with S&P Global Mobility and supported by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), the new tool draws on data provided by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to improve transparency around vehicle specifications, particularly in the used vehicle market.

RedBook General Manager Adrian Givoye said the new tool gives industry stakeholders—including dealers, insurers, and financiers—access to reliable information about how a vehicle was originally built.

“This new solution helps deliver clarity and confidence by more accurately reflecting factory specifications,” Givoye said. “It’s about giving the industry better access to trusted data sources.”

Factory-fitted features can affect a vehicle’s resale value, insurance assessment and financing options, but they are not always easy to verify. The new VIN-level lookup tool addresses this by sourcing specification data directly from participating FCAI member brands, going back to model year 2010.

S&P Global Mobility’s infrastructure supports the tool’s delivery through an API or dedicated web portal.

Peadar Walsh, General Manager of Mobility Australia and New Zealand at S&P Global, said: “Through our collaboration with the FCAI and RedBook Australia, we’ve developed a VIN-specific solution backed by OEM data that increases accuracy in vehicle identification.”

FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber said the platform demonstrates what can be achieved through industry collaboration.

“By working with our members, we’ve ensured that RedBook’s new service delivers accurate, OEM-authorised data that enhances trust when assessing vehicle specifications,” Weber said.

  • Key features of the platform include:
  • VIN-based identification of make, model, year, variant, engine, and drivetrain
  • Factory-fitted option details (where provided by OEMs)
  • Data coverage from model year 2010 for most participating brands
  • FCAI endorsement
  • Access via API or web portal

The tool is intended to support vehicle identification for valuation, insurance, and resale purposes.
