The Collecting Cars online marketplace has just listed Australia’s most famous ex-company car.
The HDT VK Group A SS, car number 005, one of the 500 examples built by HDT to meet international Group A racing homologation requirements, was initially owned by Peter Brock as his company vehicle.
Australia’s most famous ‘Blue Meanie’ – a four-speed manual example – shows 79,724 kilometres on its odometer. It was completed at the Holden Dealer Team workshops in Port Melbourne, Victoria, in May 1985.
The car’s document file includes an HDT letter confirming it was Brock’s personal company car. His long-time teammate, the late John Harvey, signed the letter.
The car is currently located in Melbourne.
“This is an incredibly rare opportunity to own a piece of Australian motoring history,” says Collecting Cars Asia Pacific head Lee Hallett.
“If there is one Holden model that encapsulates the pinnacle of Brock and the Commodore’s racing triumphs, it is the HDT VK Group A SS. And to possess car 005 would be the ultimate dream for any devoted Brock fan,” he says
The HDT VK Group A SS is regarded as the most famous Commodore model series, largely thanks to Brock’s successful racing career with Holden.
The limited-edition HDT VK Group A SS is instantly recognisable thanks to its distinct Formula Blue paintwork, which is the inspiration for its nickname.
This HDT-enhanced model series was fitted with a 4.9-litre Holden V8 engine that produced a peak power level of 196 kW at 5,200 RPM and a peak torque of 418 Nm at 3,600 RPM.
An M21 four-speed manual gearbox was fitted as standard equipment; a T5 five-speed manual transmission was optionally available.
