Ford is celebrating the fourth year of the Mustang once again being the world’s best-selling sports coupe.

In 2018, 113,066 Mustangs were sold according to data from HIS Markit. Today also marks Mustang’s 55th anniversary and National Mustang Day.

Mustang was the best-selling sports car in the United States and New Zealand in 2018.

“We broke the mould when Ford launched the Mustang 55 years ago,” says Ford president Jim Farley.

“Nothing says freedom, the wind in your hair and the joy of driving like Mustang. It’s an icon. The roar of its V8 on a spring day, there’s nothing better. No wonder it’s the most popular sports coupe in the world.”

Mustang is available for purchase in 146 countries in 2018. Since 2015, half a million sixth-generation Mustangs have been sold worldwide.

The new Mustang Bullitt exceeded global sale forecasts by 25% and is sold out in New Zealand.
