Mitsubishi Motors Australia is renewing its sponsorship of the National Basketball League (NBL) after a 23-year absence.

For the next two seasons, Mitsubishi Motors will be the major partner and official vehicle partner of the NBL.

This is in addition to the major partnership of NBL team Melbourne United, and the recently announced partnership with NBL1.

In Australia, the company says basketball is the fastest growing sport with more school level children playing the sport than any others. With ten NBL teams nationally, as well as 148 NBL1 teams across 75 clubs, there are more than 1.1 million registered players around the country. The sport is inclusive with a multi-cultural player and fan base, engaging all age groups in a family friendly environment.

Mitsubishi Motors says it is supporting basketball from the grassroots and junior development through to elite level, supporting all levels of the playing pathway.

“It is exciting for Mitsubishi Motors Australia to be returning to basketball as the Major Partner for the NBL,” Mitsubishi Motors Australia chief executive Shaun Westcott says.

“As the sport continues to grow and the League goes from strength to strength, we look forward to working alongside the NBL to make a positive difference across the basketball community from the grassroots to elite player level.”

“We are thrilled to be aligning with Mitsubishi Motors as our major partner,” NBL chief executive David Stevenson says.

“Mitsubishi Motors was one of the NBL’s key partners during the success of the 1990s and their return to the league is a credit to the growing strength of our competition.

“The NBL and Mitsubishi Motors are both searching for ambitious new growth plans. We look forward to working together to ensure more people are watching the NBL and more people are driving Mitsubishis, not only across Australia, but around the world.

“The NBL is coming off a season which featured record attendances, TV viewership, and digital engagement, and Mitsubishi Motors will only help accelerate the continued upward trajectory of our league.”

The 2023/24 NBL season will commence on Thursday, 28 September at John Cain Area in Melbourne when Melbourne United host the Southeast Melbourne Phoenix.
