Mitsubishi Outlander recalled over camera fault

Matthew Hansen · 0 comments

Mitsubishi Motors Australia has issued a recall for its recently updated Outlander SUV regarding an issue with the model’s reverse camera.

In the recall, it says that the rear-view camera has the potential to not show up while the car is in reverse, potentially causing an added safety risk.

The recall implicates Outlanders from 2021 and 2022. The brand says that a total of 6552 vehicles are affected.

“Due to a software issue with the In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) unit, the rear-view camera display may not display the rear camera image as intended,” reads Mitsubishi’s recall notice.

“If the rear-view camera display does not display the rear camera image while reversing the vehicle, it could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to any persons located behind the vehicle.”

Mitsubishi states that it is in the process of contacting customers, and that repairs can be conducted at any dealership; not necessarily just the dealership where the vehicle was purchased.

“Mitsubishi Motors Australia will contact owners in writing and advise them to present their vehicle to their preferred Mitsubishi Motors dealer to have the IVI software updated, free of charge,” the recall adds.

“The repairs may be performed by any Mitsubishi Motors dealer regardless of where the vehicle was purchased.”
