Inner West Council is bringing out new carshare spaces at nine light rail stops in Sydney.
This means Sydney residents can leave their car at home and combine public transport and carshare to travel within the Inner West.
The new spaces will be trialled over the next two years at stops at Dulwich Hill, Dulwich Grove, Arlington, Marion, Lilyfield, Rozelle Bay, Hawthorne, Leichhardt north and Lewisham West light rail stations.
Carshare company GoGet proposed the trial, championed by Inner West mayor Darcy Byrne.
“With tens of thousands of carshare members across the Inner West, it makes sense to integrate carshare with our light rail line,” Byrne says.
“Sydney-siders want more sophisticated transport options that allow them to make more affordable and sustainable choices.

“Integrating these two transport modes allows more people than ever before to ditch their private cars.”
GoGet head of locations and partnerships Christopher Vanneste says it was fitting that the integration between carshare and light rail would be trialled in the Inner West.
“The Inner West is where Australian carshare was born 16 years ago, and we couldn’t be more excited that Council sees GoGet as an established form of public transport that delivers significant social and economic benefits.”
Vanneste says this is the first integration of carshare with public transport in Australia.
“Every carshare vehicle takes 10 private vehicles off the road, and we expect this integration to further decrease congestion on our local streets, and enable people to use public transport for the majority of their journey and then use carshare for the critical ‘mid-mile’ of their trip.”
Locals should look out for the new signed spaces at their local rail stop.
