Former Groupe Renault chief executive officer Thierry Bolloré has been appointed as Jaguar Land Rover chief executive officer effective September 10, 2020.
The new appointment was announced by the chairperson of Tata Sons, Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover PLC, Mr Natarajan Chandrasekaran.
“I am delighted to welcome Thierry to Jaguar Land Rover,” Chandrasekaran says.
“As a global business leader with a proven track record of implementing complex transformations, Thierry will bring a wealth of experience to one of the most revered positions in the industry,” he says.
Bolloré (57) started his automotive career on the factory floor at Michelin in 1990, climbing up the corporate ladder to become the vice president of the brands global aircraft business in 2002, before moving to global automotive supplier Faurecia in 2005.
He joined Groupe Renault in September 2012, was appointed manufacturing and supply chain vice president a month later. He moved up the ranks of the senior leadership team to become Groupe Renault chief executive officer in January 2019, before he was dismissed by the board in October 2019.
It is believed that the previously close relationship between Bolloré and the disgraced former Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance boss Carlos Ghosn was part of the reason for his dismissal led by Groupe Renault chair Jean-Dominique Senard.
“Renowned for their passion and spirit, the people of Jaguar Land Rover are the driving force behind its success. I couldn’t be more excited to join the team continuing to shape the future of this iconic company,” Bolloré says.
“It will be my privilege to lead this fantastic company through what continues to be the most testing time of our generation,” he says.
Bolloré succeeds Professor Sir Ralf Speth, who will take up the previously announced position of non-executive vice chairman of Jaguar Land Rover PLC.
