Australia’s government has been told that it must help GM Holden if politicians want the automaker to remain in Australia, according to The Australian Financial Review.
Mike Devereux, MD of Holden Australia traveled to Canberra to meet with industry minister Greg Combet and his coalition counterpart, Sophie Mirabella, where the automotive executive stressed that even with government funding planned through 2020, GM Holden faces imminent decisions that will effect its future in Australia.
“We’re just making sure everyone understands our decision time frame,” Devereux told the AFR.
Labor has promised $1.5 billion in industry assistance by 2015 and another $1.5 through 2020.
The Coalition has pledged to cut pre-2015 funding by $500 million, and says it will launch a Productivity Commission review of post-2015 funding.
