Australia will be the first of 180 international markets to receive Ford’s all-new Ranger 4×2 and 4×4 pick-ups and cab-chassis when the first models go on sale in October, 2011.
The full range, however, won’t become available until Q1 of 2012.
The new Ranger, the twin-under-the-skin with Mazda’s new BT 50, will be available in three cab and two body styles, with four model variants, three engines and three transmission choices.
Single cab, Super cab and Double cab versions in pick-up and cab-chassis variants will be available while an all-new family of engines is making its debut. These comprise:
– 3.2 L Duratorq TDCi five-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 147 KW and 470 Nm
– 2.2 L Duratorq TDCi four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 110 KW and 375 Nm
– 2.5 L Ford Duratec four-cylinder petrol engine producing 122 KW and to 226 Nm
Turbo-diesel Rangers will be available with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission while petrol models retain a basic five-speed manual gearbox.
Bridging the gap between 4X2 and 4×4 is the 4X2 Hi-Rider, providing the same height and ground clearance as the 4×4 models.
Safety has been upgraded over the outgoing model and all-new Rangers are fitted with dual front airbags, dynamic stability control with rollover mitigation, hill-launch assist, traction control, load adaptive control and trailer-sway control.
Front seat side and curtain airbags are standard on all models except the XL single-cab chassis.
Additionally, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution, emergency brake assist and emergency brake lights are also standard.
The 4×2 model range is priced from $19,740 for the single cab-chassis XL 2.5 petrol manual, rising to $44,490 for the double cab pick-up High-Rider XLT 3.2 diesel.
The 4×4 model range starts at $38,390 for the single cab-chassis XL 2.2 diesel and tops out at $57,390 for the double cab pick-up Wildtrak 3.2 diesel.
Where available the six speed automatic transmission adds $2000 and all prices are exclusive of on road costs.
