Tesla Model Y auction could see high prices

Geoff Dobson · 0 comments

One of the first 2022 Tesla Model Ys is up for auction in Australia with prices likely to exceed retail, such is the demand for EVs.

That’s according to Lloyds Auctioneers and Valuers which intends auctioning the Model Y on Monday October 3 from 7pm.

Lloyds Auctions, an Australian-wide auction house specialising in EV auctions, says it has auctioned many secondhand Teslas for high prices.

“With wait times on the Tesla Model Y being anywhere from nine to 18 months this is the perfect opportunity to get your hands on an electric vehicle now and skip the lengthy wait times,” says Lloyds Auctions chief operations officer Lee Hames.

A report by The Committee of Sydney states that “If electric vehicles carry the vast bulk of achieving the 2030 target, 100% of passenger car sales will need to be EVs in 2027, leading to approximately 850,000 passenger EVs on the road by 2030”.

The City of Sydney is also preparing an “EV Strategy” to include possible EV charging sites and says it was among the first Australian organisations to switch its fleet to hybrid and electric.

“Sydney is leading the way to reach its net zero emissions target by planning to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2027, which is not far away so people are looking for these (EV) cars now,” says Hames.

This highlights EV demand is reflecting the same upward pressures in pricing of petrol, having a major impact on resale pricing, he explains.

The Tesla Model in metallic grey and has only delivery kilometres (35km) on the clock and it comes with the full warranty supplied by Tesla, says Lloyds Auctions.
