Commercial property owners are excited about the increasing number of car dealerships taking up tenancies.
Tesla has scooped a premium spot at 20 Martin Place in Sydney, across town Toyota opened a shop at Rouse Hill town centre, while in Melbourne, Audi has a new site in Swan St, Richmond.
Commercial real estate services company CBRE’s spokesman Zelman Ainsworth told the Sydney Morning Herald retail landlords are keen to bring in new car brands.
”Having an outlet in a mall helps to keep the brand front of mind,” Ainsworth says.
”It is also a way to increase dwell time for landlords by having cafes and spare parts available for customers. It is all part of the changing nature of retailing.
”Small-format car dealerships are everywhere in Asian cities and we predict the same trend increasing in Australia.”
Property company GPT has embraced the concept, hosting Toyota at Rouse Hill town centre.
”Car dealerships such as Toyota and Subaru are finding new customers in our malls and trading strongly,” Vanessa Orth, head of retail at GPT, says.
