Uber Australia will close down its carshare business after acquiring the Car Next Door start-up for $105 million in 2022. The Australian Financial Review reports that Uber Carshare boss Will Davies did not respond to its request for comment, and an Uber spokesperson declined to comment.
The CEO of leading ride-share company Uber has confirmed that the firm plans to bar its drivers from operating on the app with internal combustion engine vehicles by 2030 in the US.
Uber will invest A$26million in Australia’s electric vehicle market. The investment consists of a 50% service reduction fee from July 1 (from 25% to 12.5%) for driver-partners using battery electric vehicles (BEVs) on the platform until June 30, 2025.
Uber has announced a suite of new product innovations, including ways they are pushing for a sustainable future via a virtual event hosted by chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi.
Uber says it is focussed on offering Australians an affordable and convenient alternative to private car ownership and it has acquired peer to peer car sharing platform Car Next Door.
