Ford has revealed the first race-prepared seventh-generation Mustang at Mount Panorama ahead of the Bathurst 1000.
The road-going version of the seventh-generation Ford Mustang will hit Australian and New Zealand dealerships in late 2023.
Ford Performance unveiled the 2023 Mustang GT ‘Gen3’ Supercar in pit lane and says it more closely resembles its road-going car, with a production-based Coyote V8 engine, and a similar profile of a low roofline and long bonnet.
It was built by Ford’s homologation team Dick Johnson Racing, in conjunction with Ford Performance, in preparation for the 2023 Supercars season. Johnson’s namesake team is celebrating the milestone of 1000 races at the 2022 Bathurst 1000.
Ford supported teams in 2023, who will race the new Mustang, include Dick Johnson Racing, Tickford Racing, Grove Racing, Blanchard Racing Team and new to the Mustang stable, Walkinshaw Andretti United.
“We’re very proud to present our new Mustang Supercar to the world, and what better place to do it than at Mount Panorama,” says the Ford Australia and New Zealand president and chief executive Andrew Birkic.
“It’s a special moment to be able to uncover this car in front of Ford fans, alongside all of our Supercars drivers. It’s very fitting that Dick Johnson will take the car for its first laps. He’s a legend of the sport, and an incredible ambassador for Ford.
The Bathurst 1000 1000km race will take place on October 9.
