Ford has confirmed its new Bronco Basecamp will arrive in Australia and New Zealand during the second half of 2027.
The first electrified Bronco variant combines a dual-motor electric drivetrain and 49kWh usable battery with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine operating solely as a range extender.
Ford estimates the combination will provide between 800km and 900km of driving range.
The Bronco Basecamp is built on a monocoque platform and has been designed around camping and outdoor activities.
Outer Banks variants will feature an electrically operated pop-up roof that increases interior headroom and ventilation.
The cabin can also be converted into a sleeping area and paired with an optional full-length inflatable mattress.
A 7.5-litre storage compartment capable of warming or cooling food and drinks will be standard on the Outer Banks.
Its rear-mounted Wild Kitchen incorporates a fold-down table and connects with Ford’s Pro Power Onboard system.
The system can supply up to 6.6kW from the vehicle’s battery to operate equipment such as induction cooktops, coffee machines, camping lights, laptops and photography gear.
Ford Australia marketing director Ambrose Henderson says the vehicle is suited to the outdoor lifestyles and long-distance travel common in Australia and New Zealand.
“When we looked at how Aussies and Kiwis spend their time outdoors, the national parks, the coastal trails, and the distances they travel, the fit was immediate,” Henderson says.
“Outdoor life here isn’t a trend, it’s just life. Bronco Basecamp was almost purpose-built for these customers.”
Local specifications, variants, pricing and more precise arrival dates will be announced closer to the launch.
