Nearly half of consumers (48%) in the US, say they would prioritise in-vehicle technology over brand or body style, according to the 2017 Autotrader Car Tech Impact study.

Growing numbers believe certain safety technologies, including blind-spot detection and forward collision warning, should be standard on all vehicles sold in the US, according to the study.

Volkswagen Group has overtaken Toyota to become the world’s best-selling carmaker, the first time the German company has held the position.

Japan’s Toyota, which had topped sales for the past four years, sold 10.175 million vehicles globally in 2016.

The Ford Mustang has been a popular sports car in recent years, but potential buyers should be aware it scored a lowly 2-Star rating in its Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP) assessment.

“This result is simply shocking for such a newly designed and popular model,” says ANCAP chief James Goodwin.
