Industry News: January 2017 truck sales up 21%

The total Australian truck market for January 2017 reached 1920 units, up 21.2% on the first month of 2016, according to new data from the Truck Industry Council (TIC).

Interestingly, the result for January 2017 is exactly the same as recorded for January 2007 – a year that went on to become Australia’s best ever for heavy vehicle sales.

The result does however fall short of the all-time best January on record in 2008 by 327 units, when 2247 heavy trucks and vans were delivered. Continue reading “January 2017 truck sales up 21%” »

Industry News: Lexus dealership opens in Western Sydney

A big crowd, including Toyota Australia president David Buttner, attended the opening of Clintons Toyota and Lexus of Macarthur dealership in Western Sydney.

The new dealership includes four levels including an extensive basement service centre, a ground floor showroom, a mezzanine complete with staff amenities including a gym and showers, plus an upper mezzanine where training facilities and the boardroom are located.

Industry News: Renault Group acquires EV commercial manufacturer

The Renault Group is acquiring another French company called Power Vehicle Innovation (PVI), to accelerate the growth of its light commercial vehicle business.

PVI assisted Renault on the development and electrification of the new Renault Master Z.E. which it displayed at the Brussels Motor Show on January 13.

Industry News: Wideland Group goes on Qld acquisition path

Rockhampton business Hi-way 1 is one of four truck dealerships which have been bought by rapidly expanding Australian company the Wideland Group.

The strategic expansion has seen the group also acquire truck dealerships in Gympie, Maryborough and Forest Glen to add to its agricultural, automotive and construction businesses.

Industry News: Transport costs rise on back of car loans and fuel

The latest Transport Affordability Index shows the average Australian household is paying $17,147 a year for land transport, up from $16,894 in the previous quarter.

At the most expensive end, the average family in Sydney is paying $22,050, while the annual cost of transport is lowest in Hobart at $14,439.

Industry News: Positive start to 2017 for new car sales

New vehicle sales across Australia got off to a solid start in January, with the month’s sales nudging ahead of the same period last year and a rise in activity among private purchasers.

There were 84,910 new vehicle sales in January 2017 – an increase of 537 vehicle sales or 0.6% on January 2016.

Industry News: Wireless EV charging is coming

There is already at least one wireless EV charging product on the market (Plugless). Others are coming, according to VOX.

The way it works is pretty simple. A charging pad, connected to a wall-mounted power adapter, sits on the ground. The car parks over it. On the underside of the car is a receiver.
