Toyota Australia is creating a dream toy for grown-ups: a life-size Tonka truck based on a 2.8-litre Toyota Hilux SR5 4×4 Double Cab ute.

The Tonka-inspired Toyota HiLux monster truck is the brainchild of Toyota Australia’s in-house designers, and it will soon become a reality as a one-off, fully driveable concept car.

It is believed 99,672 diesel Volkswagen’s are affected in Australia.

Industry News: Bosch targets EVs, hybrids with powertrain division

Bosch is predicting that almost 20 million hybrids and electric vehicles will be produced in 2025. With this in mind, Bosch is setting up an operating unit for electromobility.

The unit will be part of the new Powertrain Solutions division. From the start of 2018, this will include the company’s electromobility activities as well as today’s Gasoline Systems and Diesel Systems divisions.

In the future, Bosch says it will supply existing and new customers with all powertrain

Industry News: New Isuzu D-MAX range arrives at dealers

Isuzu’s new 17MY D-MAX and 16.5MY MU-X are now available at Australian dealerships. The models come with a three litre turbo-diesel engine, developed for local conditions.

Both new models are now equipped with a Euro5 emission compliant 3.0 litre 4JJ1-TC Hi-Power turbo-diesel engine.

Industry News: FCAI cracks down on fake, faulty car parts

Cases of fake car parts being imported into Australia has prompted the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) to set up a new system that will help stop them at the border.

The online reporting hub empowering consumers to submit a report aimed at assisting investigators in the detection and seizure of counterfeit car parts has received support from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP).

A joint venture company which will develop, manufacture and sell electric vehicle motors will be formed by Hitachi Automotive Systems and Honda.

The two companies now will conduct formal discussions regarding the establishment of the new company, which will see both companies invest AUD$58.4 million.

Industry News: Toyota Australia achieves hybrid sales milestone

Toyota has officially sold 20,000 Prius hybrid models in Australia since it arrived in 2001.

Prius, which is the world’s best-selling hybrid vehicle with total sales approaching four million cars, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year following its debut in Japan in October 1997.

A mandatory code to prohibit extended payment times being forced on small businesses should be created, says the chair of the Australian Trucking Association (ATA), Noelene Watson.

Watson released the ATA submission to the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (ASBFEO) inquiry into payment times and practices.

IAG has conducted industry-first research into the use of Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) systems and called for its wider use.

Research conducted by the insurer has found that 80% of road collisions occur at low speeds.

Industry News: VW launches Electrify America

Volkswagen AG (VW) will invest US$2 billion (AUD$2.62bn) in zero emission vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure and awareness programs over a decade across the US.

The new company, which will be known as Electrify America, will be a standalone organisation that will manage funding of the effort to promote zero-emission cars, Reuters reports.
