Industry News: Car loan provider to refund customers $400,000

InHouse Finance Group, a vehicle finance lender that provides finance for vehicles purchased from Best Buy Autos, has been caught charging consumers a higher rate than is allowed under the National Credit Act.

An Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) investigation found that the financier required consumers who were unable to pay a deposit of 80% to purchase a warranty product.

Industry News: ASG to acquire BMW car businesses in Melbourne

ASG Melbourne, a subsidiary of Autosports Group, has entered into a deal to purchase several luxury vehicle businesses in Victoria.

According to reports, ASG is expecting to pay $46 million for a number of automotive businesses.

Industry News: Nissan unveils Tesla-like home battery system

Car maker Nissan has created an energy storage system for the home using a recycled car battery, and announced plans for a trial in the UK that will allow electric vehicle owners to sell power back to the grid.

Nissan announced its vehicle-to-grid (V2G) trial – the first of its kind in the UK – at an event in London before revealing a slim wall-mounted battery pack for the home called xStorage.

General Motors (GM) plans to deploy thousands of self-driving electric cars in test fleets as part of a partnership with ride-sharing affiliate Lyft beginning in 2018.

The joint venture is expected to be the largest test of fully autonomous vehicles (AV) by any major automaker before 2020, according to Reuters.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks is bringing the world´s first all-electric heavy-duty truck to market, but only 20 units will be available in 2017. Unfortunately, it won’t be seen in Australia just yet.

Following the presentation of the Urban eTruck -with a range of up to 200 km – at the International Commercial Vehicle Show in 2016, the first vehicles will be delivered to customers this year.

“There are no immediate plans for the Urban eTruck in Australia, but it remains an exciting proposition for us in the future,” head of public relations at Daimler Truck and Bus Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific, James Stanford told AutoTalk.
